Personal Injury

The firm’s personal injury litigators have prosecuted and defended hundreds of personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice claims. This area of law encompasses a wide variety of situations in which a person is injured or killed as a result of the negligent or intentional actions of another. These claims include automobile and truck accidents, premises liability, injuries resulting from inadequate supervision, as well as intentional acts including dozens of police shooting cases.

Jim Hacking represented barge companies and barge insurers for many years on personal injury claims.  He now brings that experience to work for injured seaman and barge workers.  Mr. Hacking has an extensive Jones Act practice, handling cases in Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas and Kentucky representing employees who work hard in a dangerous job. 

Jones Act

Working aboard maritime vessels puts crewmen in constant risk of serious personal injury. The Jones Act provides comprehensive coverage for crewmen who are injured or die through the negligence of their employer. Crewmen aboard ships, boats, barges, tug boats, commercial fishing vessels, cruise ships, tour boats, and tankers, in navigable waters at sea, in rivers, lakes, bays, and sounds, are entitled to compensation under the Jones Act.
